| << LONDON FESTIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE / 21st JUNE EXPLORE SITES AND SOUNDS21 June, 10am – 7pm / Exhibition Road, SW7 2RL CONCRETE VERGE (2008) Concrete Verge (2008) is a site-based artwork in response to the proposed road and traffic scheme devised for Exhibition Road by Dixon Jones architects. It considers the architecture and local site of Exhibition Road within the context of public access to the site. The Dixon Jones scheme seeks to create a system of shared road usage between pedestrian and vehicle. Concrete Verge infiltrates this shared site of occupation, inhabiting a physical space within Exhibition Road whilst simultaneously becoming camouflaged and invisible within it. The work’s multiple mirrored surfaces mean that ultimately it is constructed from refracted and recycled images, from that which exists outside and around, reconfiguring visual possibilities withheld within Exhibition Road’s surrounding architecture. Concrete Verge (2008) was commissioned by RIBA Trust for the London Festival of Architecture 2008 www.lfa2008.org | |||
