PROJET MIDI in association with curator Charles Danby is pleased to present Soul Stripper a group show of international artists.Soul Stripper takes its title from a Heavy Metal song by AC/ DC from 1974. Just as AC/DC has returned a generation of i-pods, so post-modernity has been re-re-synched via a fresh set of cultural references and casual recollections, a frenzied debasement of all that is since 1910.The works shown disclose the hedonistic and the forbidden, drawing on psychological distress and embracing a liberalism attached to referencing a century without recourse or throwback. Post-produced these are the innovations of a still-young century in which modernist codes nestle between quotations of a post-technological age spliced with implausible outcomes and synthetic codes. Barefaced seduction sits against a counter-celebration of low –fi aesthetic. Soul Stripper soul searches today’s multi-layered cross-threaded maze of information and lays bare a temporal stasis within a generational overkill of post- production and reproduction.
